Wine gets better with age and Marni’s collection is no exception. The Italian brand was originally known for its fur, but has evolved to encompass feminine palettes and classic silhouettes for a lovely disposition. Loose trousers and chic blazers offer the best fit for any woman who wants to stand out from the crowd, while their metallic sandals become the best accessory.

    Marni Cap Sleeve Dress

Wine is the main palette within this collection. The striking colour can be seen on the Cap Sleeved Dress, which pleats near the waist and cinches it slightly to offer sophistication. Statement necklaces and a pair of heels can truly make it the belle of the ball at any event or casual day out. Drawstring Trousers and the Asymmetric Skirt also embodies the bold colour for a comfortable shape.

Cahier d’Exercices gives an overview of Marni’s SS14 Collection at the Milan Fashion Week. If we we’re to define this collection it would probably be textures and patterns. With textures ranging from small petals to heavy embroidery and simple linens, this new collection is a pleasure for the eyes.

A sense of orientalism is clearly visible in shapes and details; Kimono sleeves and Japanese inspired patterns mix with origami pleats and floral prints on wide pants.

    Marni Brain Rea

Marni Edition knows that the very essence of fashion is art. For what is now its third collaboration with an artist, the collection has teamed up with Brian Rea, American illustrator and former art director of the New York Times, for Marni Uomo and Marni Donna 2012 Winter Edition.

The collection features Rea’s “magical-melancholy” illustrations perfectly pictured on Marni Edition’s signature t-shirts and bags. Rea’s illustrations use well defined black and white lines that contrast with colored backdrops to produce a magical image from common objects. Rea’s sharp yet whimsical style seamlessly compliments Marni’s vision for the collection, which Castiglioni has described as “iconic youth cultures that clash and mingle in unexpected ways.”

Look out for Brian Rea for Marni Winter Edition 2012 sold exclusively at Cahier!
