Currently residing in Perugia, Italy, Koeun Park is the mastermind behind Forme d’Expression, a brand known for its romantic silhouettes and attention to detail. After studying fashion in her native South Korea, Park worked in both Paris and Milan before settling in New York with her husband, where she took a job as a designer with Donna Karan. After leaving the Italian fashion house, she formed her own brand in order to have more control over her work—which is also the reason that she returned to Italy after launching Forme d’Expression. Another reason? To be closer to the people actually forming her pieces—the designer places great importance on the communication between tailors, patternmakers and designers when creating a piece. The importance that she lends to collaboration is clear in her work—composing with beautiful proportions, the designer’s collections are subdued and carefully pieced together, reminiscent of both today and the 19th century.
With both a menswear and womenswear line, the designer still finds the time to handle each one of her pieces in both pre and post-production. The result is a perfect mix of ready-to-wear pieces that are steady and strong, while maintaining a quiet dignity about them—something that is only found in the most classic and timeless pieces.
Made exclusively with linen, Forme d’Expression’s Bodice Top is a reflection of the subtle romance that runs through designer and founder Koeun Park’s SS15 collection. The sleeveless gauze top features a raw hemline and a back sipper, lending the piece a touch a modernism.
Traditional with a twist, the Forme d’Expression ’s Dungaree is a timeless piece essential for any wardrobe. Creating a silhouette of romantic proportions, the dress is made up of ramie and cotton, featuring side pockets and ties in the back to open up the classic dress, turning it in a truly original piece.
