It seems natural that the son of an optician and a fashion designer would fall prey to the allure of sunglasses (his father founded the Harry Lary’s shop in Paris). Launched in 2006, the young French designer turned his fascination with everything eighties into a company that creates vintage-styled sunglasses made largely from acetate. The idea to branch out on his own came after he produced his own pieces in 2002, making it clear that the young designer was destined for a career in the fashion world.
The striking frames, which are all handmade in France, are usually inspired by a celebrity muse of sorts. It is worth noting that he is one of the only companies that exclusively produces his wares locally—he is also a rare commodity in the world of independent sunglasses’ brands. The trademark glasses are also notoriously logo-
free—instead, they are largely recognizable because of their staple shapes and styles.
This season saw the collaboration of Thierry Lasry with the iconic Fendi. For the collection, Lasry worked closely with Silvia Venturini Fendi herself. Brainstorming with the luxury Italian fashion house spurned the creation of the sunglasses capsule collection, which showcases four styles that were pulled from the Fendi archives and restyled to fit the modern woman, made available only in Spring 2015.
Formed from acetate and PVC metal, the Diamondy frames by Thierry Lasry feature a gradient lens and a cat-eye shape. The transparent frames are brilliant in a deep cherry hue, with the black and gold metal corners lending the frames a modern feel, despite their obvious homage to the eighties.
Featuring the round frame the dominated the end of the eighties, Sobriety in Grey is an updated throwback to a different time. Presented with a translucent frame in a smouldering grey, the sunglasses feature a metal accent on the temple, making them subtle enough to be worn with any outfit, but lovely enough to be worn as a statement piece.
